The smoke from the brutal summer fire season has finally cleared out (thank you firefighters), just in time for fall fun on the trails. By horseback, left and right feet or bicycle, our area offers some top-notch recreation opportunities, whether you’re looking for an hour of exploration or a weekend and beyond.
It is well known that the Republic area, and northeastern Washington in general, offers numerous ATV trails. (Find links to more motorized recreation information on this page.) But did you know that our hiking trails are some of the wildest and scenic around? You can be in the mountains and on your way up the switchbacks just 15 minutes outside of city limits.
Below, you’ll find just a few of our favorite trails. Follow the links for more information and other suggestions for getting outside this fall!
Heading east out of Republic and over Sherman Pass towards Kettle Falls:
Sherman Loop – a classic favorite amongst locals, easy to access
Kettle Falls and Jungle Hill Trail
Heading south down the San Poil River on Highway 21:
Swan Lake Trail – an easy hike and a great swim!
Thirteen Mile Trail – Challenging, but worth it. Bring a picnic and take it slow.
